About Me

The name's River, Rivercity_ . I'm a young photographer/film maker/explorer/urban loser from Brisbane, Australia, better known as "The River City". I started off taking photos in 2007 when I was a kid of pieces at the local skatepark and just cool things I saw around. I have always had a natural love for Urban Cultures and Graffiti. In 2011, I discovered a few drains and abandoned houses/buildings in my area and expanded to new locations with my photography. At this time, I was also filming riders at skateparks around Brisbane/ Gold Coast. I decided to combine these two skills of filming and photography and persue them in a different way. In 2012, I was scrolling through Tumblr where I stumbled across some legshot and tunnel photos from an explorer in Sydney. I was inspired, and hadn't really seen anything like it in Brisbane. I was so interested in this sub-culture called "Urbex" I took to the streets of Brisbane City and did a little seeking and finding, till I built up a tiny portfolio of images which I released onto my blog "brizburnah", which later become rivercity_ (because some black dude from USA had the account rivercity, and hadn't been active for about a year grrrrr). During 2013, I had my peak year, a few dudes popped up in the Brissy scene who caught my attention. I teamed up with them and raised the bar of exploring in Brisbane. I collected tonnes of images and videos which i've released onto my Instagram. In 2014, the Brisbane urbex scene went into overdrive, kids with DSLR's were popping up left, right, front and centre. These "trendhoppers" as I like to call them, sparked off an urbex 'craze'. News Segments, Police Reports and Newspaper articles were popping up everywhere about this current "crazy lifestyle". Around mid-2014 is when I left the scene and kept a down-low for a while. During this time, I got inspired to make a video with all the footage I had collected, and released the video "The Life of Rivercity". It really kicked off and has collected close to 40k views. However, as great as the video was, around the end of 2014, and 2015 I had a little non urbex related run-in with the police, and it really crabbed me out from doing anything, so I decided to get my life together and to make something out of my skills and social media popularity. Now in 2015, I have tried to steer my photography and film-making into a more legal approach, however still keeping that Urban-Street vibe to it. Since the start of 2015, I have worked with many great people and companies such as: Sofles, Drapl, 750 Rebels, Bias B, Shakewell Magazine, Crush City, Well Dressed Vandals, Easy Street Co, Reals, Grime Connoisseurs, Channel 7, Sketch a Day May, Public Enemy Melbourne.

My plans for the future are to expand my lists of clients and to have as much fun doing it (illegally or legally). Peace out!!
